VOLUNTEER NEEDED – 2/3 days a week
The Society is a small charity which serves people with the skin condition vitiligo. Vitiligo can often cause acute anxiety to the sufferer because his or her skin pigmentation can vary and mutate and arouse curiosity, unkind comments and in the worst cases, discrimination and social stigma. It is particularly difficult for people with darker skins, with white patches showing on the face, hands and body. It is estimated that around one in a hundred people have it. There is as yet no cure, although some treatments can help some patients. Awareness of the condition is limited in the medical community.
The Society helps sufferers with information and support, informs the medical profession and helps with research into the causes and treatment of Vitiligo.
We are short of funds and would really appreciate someone with expertise in fund-raising and office experience (including MS Office word-processing and computerised book-keeping) to work as a part-time volunteer in our offices in Kennington, not far from Waterloo and Lambeth North tube stations. Hours are negotiable. You would work in the office, applying for funding from grant-giving bodies and organisations and also answering the phone and providing an initial helpline service to callers after adequate training. If a salary is needed an element of the position could be self- funded as part of the fundraising activity.
If you are interested please contact Jennifer Viles, Manager, Vitiligo Society, 125 Kennington Road tel 020 7840 0844, or email: Jennifer Viles
